Klaus Ferdinand Hempfling

June 24th, 2008 by admin

kfh01.jpegKlaus F. Hempfling may just be the best horse-trainer in the world. I have never seen anyone be with horses in such a natural way and in such harmony. And I have never seen horses move so beautifully and willingly as they do with Hempfling.

Hempfling was born in Germany, but has lived a great deal of his life in Spain with wild horses. He is trained in communication and has a background in theatre and dance.

The first time I read his book “Dancing with Horses”, I found it rather difficult to understand. It was all a completely new way of seeing things for me, not anything like what I had learned about horses and riding, being taught by military-people in my early years. I felt I had to be able to perform some kind af magic in order to do the things he does. The second time I read the book, things began to dawn on me though. I do not believe Hempfling is a magician, but I do believe he possesses a certain inner peace, a very deep understanding, an attitude and awareness that appeal to horses. But I also believe that most people, if they really want to, can reach the point where they have the same inner peace, deep understanding, attitude and awareness and will be able to achieve the same harmonious togetherness with their horse. In order to reach that point, I think most modern horse-people will have to work a great deal with themselves, I know I did, and that can be a long and sometimes rather difficult road.

kfh02.jpgFor me, it´s not the things Hempfling achieves with his horses; there are many excellent trainers who achieve the same things (almost), no, it´s the look and willingness of his horses! The way his horses look content and happy, the way the whole attitude of his horses scream: “Yes! finally someone who knows what I´m all about, I love it!” The way he lets his horses be horses, the way he lets them be free, THAT´S amazing!

I have been working with my horses using Hempfling´s methods for some time now. It´s hard work, timeconsuming and sometimes frustrating, but it certainly works and it certainly is worth the effort. My horses have a better life, I have a better life, and the time I spend with my horses has become so much better, it is harmony, friendship and joy on a whole new level.

I would urge any horse-person to read his books, especially “Dancing with Horses” and try his training-methods! You just might discover a whole new and better world for you and your horse.

Hempfling also has a training set of 7 DVD´s coming out this winter, I, for one, can´t wait.

If you live near Denmark, you can visit and learn at Hempfling´s training school. For more info, go to his own site: Klaus Ferdinand Hempfling

Brumbys to Dubai

June 18th, 2008 by admin

brumby.jpgAn oil sheik billionaire has started flying wild mares and stallions from remote WA to Dubai to create a “super breed of endurance racehorse.

Thirteen of the animals have arrived at plush stables in the United Arab Emirates from Lake Gregory, south of Halls Creek in the Kimberley, Peth Now reports.

The deputy ruler of Dubai, Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, sent his personal Australian veterinarian Alan Post to hand-pick them for breeding and racing.

He was alerted to their plight by a website run by Broome woman Libby Lovegrove.

Wear a helmet when riding!

June 13th, 2008 by admin

Gary Hornstein understands the motivating power of tragedy.

That’s why he refuses to give up his tireless fight for a law that shouldn’t need fighting for: requiring kids under 16 to wear a helmet when riding a horse on public land.

Hornstein, of Loxahatchee, knows well what can happen to young riders who don’t wear head protection. His 12-year-old daughter, Nicole, died in June 2006 after 20 days in a coma, succumbing to head wounds sustained when a speeding car spooked her horse and she was thrown to the pavement.

Portugal´s wild horses face extinction

June 12th, 2008 by admin

cerrano.jpgA breed of wild horses which runs free in the serras of north-eastern Portugal could disappear over the next few decades.

Today there are only 1,600 of the small but hardy mountain-living garrano horses left in Portugal, 95 per cent of them roaming wild in the hills around Arga, Amarela, Gerês and Cabreira.

Numbers of the breed are dwindling because of a reduction in their natural habitat and because of an increase in wolves which prey on the young foals.

“Over a half of the foals are killed by wolves,” said Jose Leite, of the Vieira do Minho Garrano Horse Breeders Association (ACERG).

Devil worshippers in horse attacks

June 10th, 2008 by admin

Devil worshippers are being linked to horrific slashings that have left one horse dead and three mutilated.

Police fear the animals have been targeted so their blood can be used in satanic fertility rites.

And they reckon more could follow in the run-up to the summer solstice on June 21 - the longest day of the year and a key date in the occult calendar.

Last night, one horse owner whose mare’s genitals were slashed said: “We are scared stiff. We are watching the animals round the clock.”

The attacks happened at remote farms near Bonnybridge, Stirlingshire.

Horses attacked

June 10th, 2008 by admin

Police have launched an investigation after four horses were attacked in their fields in the Bonnybridge area.

One of the animals was so badly injured it had to be destroyed by its owners.

Another three horses, stabled at different locations, also received cuts to their bodies between 30 May and 6 June, Central Scotland Police said.

The force has warned farmers and animal owners in the area to be vigilant. Patrols in the area have also been increased.

Insp Paul Fleming of Denny police station, said: “To get that close to a horse, a great deal of time has to be spent befriending it.

“The person who has done this is obviously comfortable around horses.

“I appeal for anyone with information or who sees anything suspicious to contact us.”

3 neglected horses put down

June 10th, 2008 by admin

Three horses were euthanized last week among the more than 100 taken over by Marion County Animal Services last month after allegations of neglect.

“Two stallions and one mare had to be put down, as of Friday,” said county spokesman Judge Cochran in a prepared statement. “The neglect and damage to the horses was too great. Euthanizing the three animals was the most humane action.”

Passports for equines in EU

June 10th, 2008 by admin

Horses, donkeys and other members of the “equine” family in the European Union (EU) will have a single passport next year.

Under new rules adopted by the European Commission on Monday, all equidae will now have to acquire their individual passports within six months after their birth.

At the same time, when the passport is issued, the animal will be tagged with an electronic chip that would be injected to its neck. The chip will match the passport.

The EU’s executive arm said the new identification system will help improve the health of horses, donkeys and other members of the “equine” family as the current one was outdated.

“The current system of identifying horses is outdated. It needs to be adapted to the new identification technologies,” EU Health Commissioner Androulla Vassiliou said in a statement.

“It creates a better identification system that in the end will help us fight possible animal diseases,” she added.

Study on injuries caused by horses

June 10th, 2008 by admin

Utah State University Extension Equine Specialist Pat Evans is conducting a study to learn more about the most common injuries caused by horses.
She’s conducting an online survey to learn about the most common injuries, the activities that cause them and medical costs they generate.
Questions include riding style, age of the horse being ridden, types of riding injuries and workdays missed.
Evans and partners at the University of Arkansas will look for patterns in the data that could increase understanding of what causes the injuries and how to stop them.
The responses will be collected until the end of June. Then Evans and the University of Arkansas researchers will sift through the information and write a paper based on their findings.

Brumby Runners

June 9th, 2008 by admin

Dallas Orchard may still be a few days short of his third birthday, but the pint-sized cowboy is ready to carry on the family tradition of brumby runners.

Dallas’ family has opened a brumby sanctuary in Benambra, 250km northeast of Melbourne, and the tiny toddler “just wants to ride everything”, according to his mum, Tahnee.

“He just wants to copy his Dad and his Pop. He calls himself a hard-working man,” she said.

When Dallas takes over at the park he will become the sixth generation of brumby runners in his family.
